Katie Bruins, MA
Hello, my name is Katie Bruins! I am a Limited Licensed Counselor in the State of Michigan. I received my Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Davenport University in 2025.
I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and adults, addressing problems related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, low self-worth, and life transitions. I am also passionate about working alongside the parents/caregivers of my young clients to support the whole client, both in and out of our sessions. I have several years of experience working with children and adolescents through my previous work as a Student Success Coordinator at a local elementary school. Additionally, I have experience, both personal and professional, working with individuals with disabilities.
Overall, I use a person-centered, trauma-informed approach when working with my clients. Furthermore, I utilize an eclectic, individually tailored treatment style to best meet my client's unique and holistic needs. Some of my most commonly used therapeutic approaches are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Emotion-Focused Therapy. Additionally, when working with my younger clients, I often incorporate aspects of bibliotherapy, play therapy, and expressive art techniques.
I value working in collaboration with my clients and strive to create a supportive environment where my clients feel safe, valued, heard, and accepted at all times. I firmly believe that each client has the ability within themselves to overcome life’s challenges, develop healthy coping strategies, and implement changes to increase positive mental, emotional, relational, and spiritual outcomes.
